Boris Feldman

Physiotherapist and founder of Salbar Fysiotherapie

My name is Boris Feldman. I have worked as a physiotherapist since 1996. Over these years, I have seen thousands of people with a wide range of problems: from a recent sports injury or a painful shoulder to persistent back problems, recovery after surgery and complex symptoms involving several factors. This experience has changed the way I work. I increasingly believe less in a single technique that works for everyone, and more in sound clinical reasoning, focused assessment and regular evaluation.

My approach to treatment

At a first appointment, I particularly want to understand three things: What is happening? Why are certain activities difficult for you at the moment? What needs to change to help you move forward? To do this, I combine our conversation with a physical examination. I then explain what I have found and the treatment options I see. I believe it is important that you do not undergo treatment without understanding why we are doing something.

Treatment and training complement each other

In physiotherapy, it is sometimes suggested that we must choose between hands-on treatment and active exercise. I do not see them as opposites. In some patients, a manual technique, mobilisation, IASTM or another intervention may temporarily reduce pain or make movement easier. That can be valuable. But becoming stronger, more capable of tolerating activity or more confident ultimately comes through moving, exercising and loading the body again. The skill is therefore not to apply as many treatment methods as possible, but to determine which intervention adds value at which moment.

A broad therapeutic toolbox

Over the years, I have completed various training and continuing education courses and gained experience in areas including:

  • exercise therapy and rehabilitation training;
  • mobilisation and manual treatment techniques;
  • Mulligan concepts;
  • IASTM;
  • myofascial treatment techniques;
  • kinesiology taping and other taping techniques;
  • neurodynamic techniques;
  • stretching and mobility training;
  • breathing and relaxation techniques;
  • shockwave;
  • neuromuscular electrical stimulation;
  • Tecar and other additional physical treatment modalities.

I consider these methods tools within physiotherapy, rather than separate miracle treatments. The clinical assessment determines which tools are relevant.

Continuing to develop

Physiotherapy is continually changing. Ideas that seemed self-evident twenty years ago sometimes turn out to be more nuanced in the light of new research. At the same time, new techniques can sound promising without actually being relevant for every patient. That is why I consider continuing education important. Not to offer patients the latest technique at every opportunity, but to become better at distinguishing between what is plausible, what is scientifically supported and what actually works for the individual patient.

Clinical experience since 1996, ongoing professional development

Boris Feldman has worked as a physiotherapist since 1996. His years of clinical experience are complemented by ongoing professional development and further study of assessment and treatment methods. At Salbar Fysiotherapie, experience and up-to-date knowledge inform a thorough assessment, clear explanations and a treatment plan tailored to your symptoms and goals.

My goal

My aim is not to keep you in treatment with me for as long as possible. It is for you to ultimately need me as little as possible. This means understanding what you can do yourself, regaining confidence in movement and developing sufficient capacity for the activities that matter to you. And if a problem falls outside my expertise or physiotherapy is not the appropriate care, I will say so. To me, that is just as much a part of professional practice. Boris Feldman, Physiotherapist
